As the weather cools, the leaves fall from the trees, and our lifestyle switches from lazing about in the sunshine to curling up on the sofa, it's time to get ready for autumn. But far from preparing for the winter blues, here at homify we embrace the colder seasons, and all the cosy nights in they promise, and we're here to help you do the same.

Autumn can be a wonderful time if you're ready for it. Our bodies wind down from the excitement of summer, and our lives tend to slow right down too, meaning more time at home. Today we're going to look at some must-haves to ensure that you get the most out of all of that extra time your going to spend indoors, and we promise that you'll forget all about summer.

So let's get down to it so that you can prepare your home before the temperature drops any more!

1. A wine cellar

It's time to put away the ice buckets and the chardonnay and break out the red wine! There's nothing better than curling up on a rainy day with a good book and a glass of wine, and with a wine cellar, you'll never run out.

There's a ton of fantastic ways to incorporate wine into the design of your home, from a simple wine rack, to this temperature controlled state-of-the-art cellar, but all that really matters is that you have plenty of red on hand to last you through the cold season.

2. A cosy fireplace

This one probably doesn't require much explanation, beyond pointing out that it's not as difficult to get a fireplace as you might think.

Dating back to our nomadic roots, our brains have been hardwired to react to the sight of fire, so if you can't get a real fireplace an artificial one will warm the room, while the image of the flickering flames will psychologically comfort you too! We just love the stone feature wall framing this fireplace, another great tip for adding a little Autumnal flair into your home.

3. Rug up

For those of us with hard floors it's time to break out the rugs. We all know what it's like to slip out of bed only to have our toes freeze on impact with the floor, but don't worry there's a way to avoid it that will also add some fresh style to your home!

Rugs are a great way to get all the luxury of carpet without having to commit to redoing your whole your home, especially in warmer climates. Plus you can get creative with the designs.

4. A television in the bedroom

What's better than curling up on the sofa and binge-watching your favourite television show? Doing it in bed of course! A television in the bedroom was once a luxury, but is becoming increasingly common, and dare we say it, crucial.

Make sure you never have to leave the comfort of your bed until the sun is shining again with a wall mounted television in the bedroom.

5. Luxurious bedding and cushions

Whether or not you follow our previous tip you're going to be spending a lot of time in the bedroom come Autumn, so it's time to break out the luxury linens.

Make sure you have plenty of bedding, comforters, blankets, whatever you can get your hands on, and then top it off with as many pillows and cushions as you can fit! Autumn is about luxuriating in comfort, and the bed is the perfect place to start.

6. A heated towel rack

It's amazing how quickly we go from taking two or more showers a day in the summer time to putting them off until they're absolutely necessary when the temperature drops.

Ease the shock of stepping out of the warm flow of water with a heated towel rack, giving you the instant comfort you deserve.

7. A private liquor cabinet

Autumn isn't just the time for red wine, it's also time to start shifting to those body warming spirits like whisky and brandy.

Give yourself the ultimate autumn treat with a liquor cabinet or private bar, and you'll be enjoying comforting cocktails bursting with cinnamon and honey in no time. A simple way to add a little opulence into your home.

8. A walk-in wardrobe

Summer fashion is about being fun and frivolous, but when autumn rolls around it's time to get serious, and that means layers. Make sure that your not rummaging through a pile on your floor to get to your vast collection of winter shawls, coats, and thermal underwear, with a fabulous walk-in closet.

This wardrobe already has the autumn look down with its subdued browns and sophisticated chic.

9. An outdoor hot tub

Just because the air is cooling doesn't mean you have to shift inside, especially when your relaxing in your very own hot tub! A hot tub or spa is a great way to make the most of the outdoors before it gets too cold, or if you're really brave, even when it does.

This fun design is ready for partying, but there are plenty of options for more intimate tubs. If however you don't have room for a new hot tub, we suggest that you at least consider getting a bath!

10. Time to get a new sofa

We predict you're going to be spending a lot of time on the sofa this Autumn, so make sure you've got yourself one that's large, comfortable, and inviting. Sectional sofas are a great way to get maximum seating, but really all that matters is big fluffy cushions that are going to cradle you through those long autumn evenings.

We hope that these tips get you as as excited for Autumn as we are, because the cooler months are when your home really gets a chance to shine. For some tips on decorating the outside of your home, look no further!
