Bringing people together is becoming harder and harder in today’s busy society. We’re often too busy with the hustle and bustle of our daily lives to have much time for others, and when we do have time, we don’t always want to go out for a night on the town. This is especially true of the family man, or woman. So what is there to do when you want to relax, but also enjoy the company of your friends and family? Well, why not take it back to your house and curl up in front of the television for a night in with popcorn, good movies, and good fun. As much as we may not like to admit it, television brings us together.  It allows us to relax, but also to spend time with our loved ones. But what if your TV area is less than desirably designed for guests? Luckily for you, we here at homify have solutions. In this Ideabook, we’ll be showing you how to create a comfortable TV area for you and your guests to enjoy.

Consider A Carpet

When you’re trying to create a comfortable atmosphere for you and your guests, you can’t go wrong with carpeting. Carpets offer so much more than just an extra source of colour. They make your room softer and more inviting. What’s more, they even provide extra seating. Whether you just have too many guests for the amount of furniture you own, or you have kids who enjoy playing on the floor, carpets offer an additional soft seating area, so no one has to be uncomfortable. Just throw some pillows on the carpet for added luxury.

If carpeting over the entire floor isn’t your style, rugs work just as well, as we can see here.

Get A Comfy Sofa

Let’s start off with something you’re going to spend a lot of time on – the sofa. Choosing a sofa is a matter of attentively analyzing the room, the layout, design, and décor. When deciding on the size, you need to take the whole room into consideration and figure out how much space are you willing to let it occupy.

The sofa we see here has that beautifully functional, wonderfully spacious, and aesthetically pleasing L-Shape design. This design provides tremendous placement options. Placing it directly in front of the TV is the best way to create that cozy ambience, and that way, your guests don’t have to strain their necks to watch a movie. But the L-Shape design also offers space for those who would rather focus on socializing than movie watching. They sit on one end, while the others have front row seats of the show. L-Shape sofas are best kitty-cornered, so that they take up the least amount of space, as they are rather large.

Get A Wall Unit

Wall units are furnishings that have become very popular within past decade. It’s an assembly of several discrete components that are usually fixed to an internal wall of a room. Wall unit fixtures are made in a variety of styles, from contemporary to traditional in order to match the décor of the home where they’re installed. Because there are literally hundreds of wall unit designs to choose from, it’s a cinch to match with any interior design style you have in your home.

Take this wall unit, for example. It’s sleek, elegant, provides tons of space for decorations, and it offers you space to hide your DVD collection so it doesn’t distract from the overall style of the room, and it’s not an eyesore for guests.

Don't Forget The Lights

Of course, your TV area isn’t just your TV area – it’s most likely also your living room or media room as well, so you’ll naturally have good lighting in this space. But during the evening, when you’re most likely to watch television, or most likely to entertain, you want to have other lighting options at your disposal. Think about delicate lighting. You could set up small table lights around the room for a soft glow while you enjoy your favourite shows. These lights could be your average, ordinary lamps, but we recommend mood lighting. Instead of regular light bulbs, consider using blue, green, purple, or red lights in your lamps. These bulbs give off a softer glow, allowing your eyes to relax from, and they help calm you, which is exactly what you want when you’re relaxing in front of the tube. Mediterranean style lamps also provide excellent mood lights, and it’s easy to match them with your décor.

Think About Storage Space

Finding places to store your belongings is never an easy task. Sure, it’s easy to buy any old box and throw your things in there, but you don’t want anything in your TV area to be distracting from the overall style, and you certainly don’t want your space to be cluttered. That’s why we recommend storage space that’s far away from the scrutinous eye and also adds a little more panache to your room.

Here, we offer you a wonderfully designed hutch.  This hutch offers tremendous storage space and decorating options. The light-coloured wood is easy to match with any décor, but the cubbyholes are what really seal the deal. You can hide anything you want in those cubbies, from DVDs to books, or even extra pillows and blankets for your guests. One of the best features of this storage style is the open shelf area above. This provides the perfect space for your accessories.

The Main Attraction

Last, but certainly not least, we come to the television itself. The television is the heart and soul of your TV area, so its selection shouldn’t be your last priority. For optimal viewing pleasure, and for those tech geeks out there, we recommend an HDTV, like the one you see here. They have amazing resolution, they’re light and trim, and you can position them to any angle at any given point with the pivoting mounting.

Choosing an HDVT for your TV room depends on the size of your room and the placement of the sofa. If your TV room is used for more than just TV watching, space may be limited. For more overcrowded rooms, consider a 40-inch screen if you are seated four to six feet from the TV. A 50-inch screen can be sufficient if you are up to 7.5 feet from the screen. If you are 6 to 9 feet away, consider at least a 60-inch screen.
