London-based experts Aorta The Heart Of Art are the geniuses behind our latest homify 360° discovery – and if you’re one of those who like to look the other way when the topic of conversation turns to industrial interior design, then consider this one tailor-made for you.
Far too many people consider industrial design to be a neglected style, associating the look with bare walls, exposed wiring and a lack of colours. They couldn’t be more wrong! After all, baring it all takes courage, which is what the modern industrial style is all about. Instead of hiding away, the industrial style exposes, achieving a raw and edgy look in the process.
Clearly, the professionals over at Aorta know all about the industrial design’s ability to juxtapose the raw with the refined, for they nailed this open-plan living- and dining room. But don’t pigeonhole these pros – they are a creative studio working across a range of disciplines including interior architecture, bespoke furniture and commissioned artwork. Known for being fully committed to crafting bold and unique interiors, Aorta have been working internationally since 2014 on high-class commissions including boutique hotels, restaurants, retail interiors, and galleries.
Let’s see what transpired when they were put in charge of a simple industrial-style living room…
We don’t blame anybody for stopping and staring at this living- and dining room. What makes this project even more unique was the weird little corner, which would have been a figurative brick wall for designers not worth their salt.
Aorta, on the other hand, turned a challenge into an opportunity to showcase their skills. Sleek surfaces and raw touches were beautifully combined, and even that corner area was put to splendid use by becoming the television area.
Notice the visual link between the L-shaped sofa and the dining area’s walls – both splashed in the same bumblebee yellow.
Of course the main thing about the industrial design is its ability to bring in raw, (seemingly) untouched surfaces and make them seem cosy and inviting. Well, when was the last time you witnessed a raw concrete wall that seemed as refined as this one?
Beautifully offsetting with the creamy-hued flooring and yellow wall, this surface becomes something of a focal point for these interiors. And let’s not forget the unique touch of the wall-mounted candles contrasting with the super modern ceiling downlighters.
The dining area manages to flaunt the same raw-meets-refined look as the living area, yet here the rawness comes in the form of the timber table and bench instead of the exposed concrete wall.
A navy blue rug firmly anchors the dining zone while also ensuring a pleasant touch to the colour scheme.
From this angle, not only do we get to see all the wining touches combined (that striking yellow, the raw concrete surfaces, sleek artificial lighting fixtures, etc.), but also how this layout enhances the space’s social factor. Wining and dining can be enjoyed in the one corner, while the other one is taken up by guests and/or family members lounging on the plush sofas, not missing a single beat of the conversation.
A sublime project that clearly reminds us why the industrial design is one of the most versatile options available.
