Setting Plaster paint by Farrow and Ball, almost not a colour, the merest hint of salmon pink on the walls and woodwork was the starting point for this room. We stripped the walls of plaster and found a beautiful brick that was exactly right for both a potting shed and the Sebastian Cox cupboards, so we cleaned it up and left it alone. Obstacles aside, we were finally able to open bricked up windows and doors and let the light back into this room, it now feels calm and light. We chose handmade terracotta tiles from our sister company, Floors of Stone, they have a way of making any room suddenly feel better than it did before, they are a beautifully rustic flooring that is also incredibly hard-wearing.

We opted again for our seamless copper sinks and worktop on the sink run, they are made to order and add a certain something that can’t be replicated in any other material, a feeling of having something really quite special and practical all in one. We had to have a Smeg fridge and we had our woven back pantry cupboard and we had to show off our ceramic lights and brass shelf brackets, so really this room was a dream of a space to design. We have noticed many customers gravitate towards this room in New York, its big windows and cool uncluttered style makes it very welcoming.
